Choosing nutritious foods and getting enough phys­ical activity can make a real difference in your health. For National Nutrition Month March 2019, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics encourages people to make informed food choices and develop sound eating and activity habits. 

It may be a good time to take stock of what you're putting in your body at mealtime. There's probably some room for adjustments on your plate to pack in more healthful ingredients and reduce how many calories you're taking in. And this is also sound advise for the meals you prepare for your day care children each day. 

Eating right doesn't have to be complicated. Think about what you want your plate to look like and ask if it's incorporating all the major food groups is a good place to start. Have you selected a mix of lean protein foods, vegetables, whole grains, fruits and low fat dairy products to provide a good variety of nutrients each day? 

Throughout the campaign, good eating tips such as how to keep nutritious meals simple, the importance of making food safety a part of your everyday rou­tine, the value of preparing meals with foods you have on hand to avoid wasting food, and how to se­lect nutritious food options when dining away :from home are some of the topics that are promoted. The Academy recommends balancing nutritious foods with physical activity most days of the week. Adults should participate in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity per week and children and adolescents should do 60 minutes or more of physical activity each day.

 

TDA Reviews 

TDA is still out doing reviews!! For some reason they are really spreading these out this year. Again, your menus and attendance must be up to date! Building for the future and WIC must be posted where your parents can see them, in English and Spanish. They may ask for labels from whole grain products or cere­als, and definitely from products like chicken nuggets, and other processed meats or combination foods. They will not tell you if you are not in compliance, but when they come into our offices they will write it up for us to come out and do a corrective action plan. So please, if they are there and your menus are not up to date, let us know, and do not go back and complete them and submit, as we will have to deduct it down the road.

SPRING WORKSHOP

Schedules will be posted soon. There will be train­ings held in Vemon, Wichita Falls, Gainesville, and Carrollton dm­ing the month of April. All providers must complete Civil Rights and one CACFP training each fiscal year in order to continue on the pro­ gram each year.
